🎃 Pumpkin Palooza at Hood Canal School! 🎃
Our talented students got into the fall spirit by decorating pumpkins inspired by their favorite books and literary characters! Each class put their creativity to the test, transforming pumpkins into everything from classic storybook characters to today’s beloved heroes. The results were both impressive and hilarious, with each pumpkin telling its own unique story. 📚✨

It's SPIRIT WEEK & RED RIBBON WEEK. We have dress-up themes selected by our ASB students for each day with some special themes for certain grade levels. Check it out and show us your spirit!
Monday - MY LIFE IS A MOVIE and SAY NO TO DRUGS FOR RED RIBBON WEEK: Dress like your favorite movie character.
Tuesday - TIE DYE TUESDAY (K-5): Wear your favorite Tie dye shirt and/or pants! ADAM SANDLER MOVIE DAY (6-8): Dress like your favorite Adam Sandler character.
Wednesday - GRADE LEVEL COLORS Wear a shirt with your grade’s color! TK/PK/K-Red, 1st -Orange, 2nd -Yellow, 3rd -Green, 4th -Blue, 5th -Purple. BLAST FROM THE PAST (6-8): Dress like you did two years ago.

Friday: PAJAMA DAY! Wear your Pjams to school!
Hello Hood Canal Families,
As Halloween draws closer, we want to ensure that our students have a safe and successful day at school while still being able to celebrate the day. As a reminder, October 31st is a normal school day and dressing up for Halloween is optional. However, if students decide to dress up, then please be sure they are aware of the following costume expectations.
- Students must wear regular school shoes. Heels are not allowed.
- No blood or gore is allowed.
- No weapons (swords, toy guns, daggers etc. Wands are allowed but will be taken away if they become a distraction).
- No masks. We must be able to identify each student. Makeup is okay.
- The costume needs to be one that students can easily get in and out of to use the bathroom without teacher assistance.
- All costumes must align with school district dress code policy (if you are unfamiliar with the dress code, it is detailed in the school hand book that was handed out at conferences).
- Capes are allowed but must be an appropriate length so that students won’t trip.

We’re looking for a dedicated Food Service Assistant to join our awesome team! This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a positive impact on our students while working part-time. If you love working in a school environment and helping provide healthy meals to kids, we’d love to hear from you!

Our amazing Builders Club students have been hard at work creating homemade cat toys and dog treats as part of a fundraiser for animal welfare in honor of our beloved Lois Wagner. They’ve already raised over $300, and sales will continue tomorrow during conferences! Donations are also welcome—thank you for your support!

Our students have been having a lot of fun in the Early Learning Center. They thoroughly enjoyed painting pumpkins, singing songs with Dr. Gibbon, and spending time in the gym, including the climbing wall! What a great place to be!

📅 The Care-a-Van mobile immunization crew is coming to Hood Canal School on Wednesday, November 13th, from 12-4pm!
Our nurse, Lindsey Allwine, will be on-site to help coordinate and make sure everything runs smoothly. This is a great opportunity for the 10% of our students who are currently out of compliance with state-mandated vaccines to get caught up easily, with free immunizations available.

Kindergarteners in Mr. Max’s art class got some hands-on experience with pumpkins seeds. Their reactions were precious! The students also guessed how many seeds were in a handful and got to count them. They later sampled roasted pumpkin seeds, which proved to be a big hit! #pumpkinseason #handsonlearning #PumpkinSeeds

Here are some terrific moments from our recent BOOTS outdoor education program trip to Mt. Elinor. It was a great experience with lots of challenge and lots of laughter. Seeing students achieve something they didn't believe possible is the best part. It was a great night for football at Hood Canal as our boys took on St. Mikes. There were some great plays and lots of action for the enthusiastic crowd. Next up, they take on Grapeview away on Oct. 8 and we have two more home games after that. Great job, Orcas! #flagfootball #schoolsports

Sven-Erik Spichiger, Hood Canal Parent and Pest Program Manager for the WSDA, brought his incredible insect collection to our school and shared his vast knowledge and experience fighting invasive pests with our 7th and 8th grade students. The students were fascinated by all of the variety of insects and by Mr. Spichiger's strategies for eradicating pests that threaten local agriculture. Get ready for our Spooktacular Attendance Challenge coming Oct. 7th-25th! Each student who has one absence or less and no tardies during that time will enjoy a special Mini Cake (Donut) Walk & other activities during the last 30-40 minutes of school on Friday, Nov. 1. it will be so much fun it's scary!
Our student service club is called the "Builders Club" and are sponsored by the Hood Canal Kiwanis Club. This week they kicked off their service projects for the year with a campus clean up. Great job!!
