Our five-member elected volunteer School Board is proud to serve and support the students, staff, families and community of Hood Canal. The public is welcome and encouraged to join our meetings in-person or online. Meetings are typically held the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 4pm in the Hood Canal School Library. You can find specific dates on our annual Board meeting calendar. The Zoom link to attend virtually is the same for each meeting:

Since July 2024, all of our regular board meetings have been recorded and posted here.

Board of Directors

Our Board consists of five members each elected to serve a four-year term. The terms overlap two years each and are unpaid. Candidates are elected from "director districts" and together they represent the entire Hood Canal School District. Each year the Board elects a Board Chair, Vice Chair and Legislative Representative. View the Map of Director Districts

Duties of the Board

Operating within the legal parameters of the state and federal constitutions, statutes, courts, and administrative agencies, the Board is charged with the responsibility of providing the finest educational programs for the students in the Hood Canal School District. School Board Directors make all final decisions regarding school priorities, policies, personnel, curriculum, expenditures and growth management. Directors adopt a budget, which is necessary to maintain and operate the schools, levy taxes to help support the budget and submit bond issues to finance construction projects to the citizens of the district.

Strategic Goals

  1. Future-Ready Learners: Student-Centered Learning and Growth: Equip students with the academic, social, and emotional skills they need to thrive in their future endeavors.

  2. Everyone Belongs and Thrives: Inclusion, Opportunity, and Safety: Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student, family, and staff member feels valued and connected.

  3. Partnerships That Power Success: Community Engagement and Partnerships: Collaborate with families, the Skokomish Tribe, and community partners to create meaningful opportunities for student success.

  4. Spaces That Inspire, Tools That Transform: Facilities and Resources for the Future: Modernize facilities and technology to provide safe, adaptable spaces and tools for hands-on, real-world learning, preparing students for a dynamic future.

Recent School Board Achievements

The Hood Canal School Board has demonstrated strong, stable leadership in recent years, guiding the district through a period of growth, improvement, and renewed community confidence. Key accomplishments include garnering state and national awards for academic improvement and communications; providing continuity and stability through award-winning district leadership; and recognition for model programs in outdoor education and improved student attendance.

The Board has maintained a strong focus on fiscal responsibility, ensuring a balanced and sustainable budget while planning strategically for the future. They led the development of the district’s first-ever five-year strategic plan, establishing a clear roadmap for continuous improvement in student learning, operations, and facilities.

With strong voter support, the Board successfully placed and passed two major levies: a four-year Educational Programs and Operations levy and a six-year Capital levy supporting school modernization, expansion, safety, and technology. These investments are transforming the learning environment for students and staff.

Under the Board’s leadership, the district has implemented an aligned, standards-based curriculum, contributing to improved student attendance, engagement, and academic achievement. The Board has also strengthened partnerships with the Skokomish Tribe, fostering deeper collaboration, cultural connection, and shared commitment to student success.

Committed to continuous improvement and transparent governance, the Board conducts annual self-assessments to reflect on its work and refine its practices. Together, these efforts reflect a clear vision, strong stewardship of resources, and an unwavering focus on creating the best possible learning environment for every student.
