Hood Canal School was buzzing with excitement Wednesday morning as 163 students took to the field for a high-energy, hands-on disc golf clinic led by professional athletes from the Universal Play Disc Golf (Uplay) organization. The event, made possible through the Community Connect Program and Disc Golf Pro Tour, gave students a chance to experience one of the fastest-growing sports in the world—while also receiving lasting resources to keep the game going.
Students rotated through action-packed stations, learning skills like putting, driving, and throwing techniques from Uplay’s team of professional disc golfers. The school also received a full equipment donation and standards-based PE curriculum to help integrate disc golf into ongoing physical education programming.
Zoē AnDyke, Executive Director of Uplay, praised the school and community for their enthusiasm and partnership:
“Thank you again for such a high-energy and incredible day playing disc golf with Uplay’s professional coaches! I am really looking forward to growing our relationship with Hood Canal School. This was the perfect recipient for the Community Connect grant award.”
Dr. Lance Gibbon, Superintendent of Hood Canal School District, reflected on the event's impact:
“This was such a fun and meaningful experience for our students. They were fully engaged, learning from world-class athletes, and having an absolute blast. We’re incredibly grateful to Uplay and the Disc Golf Pro Tour for this generous gift and opportunity.”
The event was part of the lead-up to this weekend’s Disc Golf Pro Tour event in Washington State, and all Hood Canal families were offered free tickets to attend. With new equipment, curriculum, and plenty of excitement, disc golf has now officially taken root at Hood Canal School.
