Superintendent Lance Gibbon

Dear Hood Canal Families,

I hope this message finds you and your family enjoying a wonderful summer!  I’m truly grateful for the privilege of serving as the new superintendent for Hood Canal School District. This is a special place with much to celebrate as well as opportunities to grow and improve.

I want you to know that nothing is more important to me than making sure that we’re doing all we can to provide a caring and safe place to help your child to learn, grow, and succeed. I’ve spent 30 years in education because I love working with our kids. You’ll see me in classrooms, at school events, and in our community because I value relationships and connection. Please don’t hesitate to come up and introduce yourself anytime you see me.

Before I started officially as superintendent on July 1, I had the chance to spend more than two weeks at Hood Canal School, meeting staff, students, and community members. Our school has some incredibly dedicated and hardworking staff caring for our students. I now look forward to getting to know our families, including you! I’ll be offering several times we can connect, but you can always reach me at [email protected].

I believe it’s vitally important that Hood Canal supports the hopes and dreams you have for your child. That’s why your input is so important as we develop our plan moving forward. We’ll be asking for your feedback throughout the year, but please don’t wait to contact us whenever you have suggestions or concerns.

I know that constant leadership turnover has been difficult. The inconsistencies and lack of predictability from year to year make it hard on everyone. As one student jokingly put it when I introduced myself, “Another superintendent?” I want you to know that Principal Torres and I are committed to bucking the trend and hope to provide years of consistent leadership.

We’ll have more information as we get closer to the start of the school year, but in the meantime I hope you and your family stay safe and have a great rest of your summer!

We’ll see you soon!

Lance
