Upcoming Levy
The Hood Canal School District encourages all voters within our school district boundaries to learn as much as they can about the school district’s levy request which will appear on ballots for consideration by February 9, 2010.
The ballot measure is for a replacement of the school district’s current maintenance and operations levy, which will expire at the end of 2010. The ballot measure is for a new three year levy (2011, 2012, and 2013).
As your local public school district, we are dedicated to providing essential information to voters, which will enable them to make informed decisions regarding the ballot measure.

Bulb planting
The junior high riparian class helped the preschoolers and kindergartners plant the 200 daffodil bulbs that Art Day from the Hood Canal Kiwanis procurred for the school. Won't they look lovely when spring arrives? Roll mouse over to see a close up of the planting.
Helicopter science
Last week in science, the 8th graders participated in a hands-on activity in which they examined some variables that affect helicopter flight patterns. As a follow-up activity, Glacier Aviation (Olympia) flew a helicopter to Hood Canal School. The flight instructor and student pilot discussed additional variables that impact how a helicopter flies. Students had the opportunity to see how the components of a helicopter influence its flight behavior. They learned how the design of a helicopter impacts its efficiency, fuel consumption, speed, and overall maneuverability. The pilots discussed the career options available to an individual with a pilot's license. Finally, they were able to see all of this demonstrated when the helicopter took off. Many thanks to Glacier Aviation.
